Welcome to the Health Promotion and Rehabilitation Laboratory in the Department of Kinesiology and Community Health at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

The Health Promotion & Rehabilitation Lab is coordinated by Dr. Chung-Yi Chiu. Our overarching research goals are to understand how people with disability and chronic illness (PwDC) live healthy, meaningful, and productive lives.

Our lab model begins with Health Promotion, including a balanced lifestyle with exercise, diet, and mental health. However, when life challenges or disease interrupts that balance, people will need a Psychosocial Adjustment to cope with their challenge or disability. If that Psychosocial Adjustment does not occur, then their Social Participation (as a parent, child, coworker, friend, etc.) may suffer while they are adapting to their disability or other challenges.
